Student Onboarding and Orientation
Our Student Services team conducts comprehensive student orientations, allowing learners to familiarize themselves with our technology platforms. This process is similar to exploring a physical learning space and helps students feel comfortable in their new virtual environment. Additionally, our students & parents webpage contains valuable resources, ensuring they can successfully navigate the online learning experience.
Teacher Preparation and Communication
Indiana Online teachers receive ongoing professional development focused on delivering high-quality instruction to all students. We understand that effective communication is key to student success, which is why our teachers:
- Contact each student at the start of every course
- Utilize various communication formats to reach students effectively
- Provide multiple avenues for students to consume information
- Provide WIN (What I Need) time – for full-time Academy students
This approach helps establish positive and inclusive learning environments where students feel supported and engaged.
Dedicated Support for Partner Schools
Our commitment to student success extends to our partner schools. The Student Services team provides all Indiana Online partner schools and students with the tools and support needed to thrive. Our wraparound processes include:
- Intervention and Communication Protocol
- A dedicated Student Success Specialist for every partner district/school
- Comprehensive Student Information System reports
Accommodations for Diverse Learning Needs
Indiana Online is dedicated to supporting all students, including those with accommodations. Our virtual learning environment naturally provides:
- A quiet space to work outside the general education classroom
- Flexible pacing in asynchronous courses
- Use of calculators on all assignments
Additional accommodations and features include:
- One-on-one time with teachers during office hours
- Text-to-speech feature (Immersive Reader) for most content
- Ability to print assignments
- Closed captioning for videos and live Zoom sessions
Specialized Support for Students with Accommodations
To meet this need, we have a dedicated Student Success Specialist, who focuses on supporting our students with accommodations. Her role includes:
- Collaborating with district Teachers of Record
- Acting as a liaison between Indiana Online and the School of Record
- Attending case conferences and annual reviews
- Obtaining copies of each student’s IEP/504/ILP
- Providing feedback on course performance and progress toward annual goals
