7th Grade Physical Education

Enrollment Message

Exercise Requirement - Students must exercise 3 hours over a minimum of 3 days. Exercise logs are due each Sunday. Students will need to complete the weekly exercise logs prior to the due date to avoid a penalty. Exercise logs cannot be entered early. A pacing guide, found in the Welcome Module, provides specific due dates. If a due date is missed, students can still input their log up to 2 weeks late but will receive a 5-point penalty for each week the exercise log is late.

Course Description

Physical Education in 7th grade based on the Indiana Academic Standards for Physical Education. Students in 7th grade physical education further refine complex motor skills and competencies in selected individual and dual lifetime physical activities, teamsports, aquatics, adventure, and rhythmic activities. Students work toward achieving competence in increasingly complex physical activity contexts. Students learn to apply interdisciplinary knowledge (e.g., anatomy, physics) to activity settings and focus on working as a team to solve problems. Students develop plans to enhance their own health-related physical fitness and participate in vigorous activities linked to their skills and levels of fitness. Physical activity is used as a venue for self-expression and for developing positive relationships. Ongoing assessment includes both written and performance-based skill evaluations. Along with the current academic standards, the Science/Technical Studies Content Area Literacy Standards are incorporated in the teaching of this subject with the expectation of a continuum of reading and writing skills development.

Course Goals

Upon completion of the course, students will…

  • demonstrate competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns.
  • apply knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies and tactics related to movement and performance.
  • demonstrate the knowledge and skills to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical activity and fitness.
  • exhibit responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others.
  • recognize the value of physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression and/or social interaction.

Grading/Evaluation

Indiana Online does not assign letter grades, grant credit for courses, nor issue transcripts or diplomas. A final score reported as a percentage of total points earned will be sent to students upon completion of a course. Your school of record can also access this score within the Student Information System, Genius. The final score will be shown as a percentage in Canvas and Genius. The student’s school of record will determine the letter grade based on their specific grading scale.

Students must complete at least 70% of the course and take all parts of the final exam(s) to have a score reported to their school of record. Failure to meet these requirements will result in a score of 0 reported to the school of record.
