How does Indiana Online support students taking Summer School courses?

Supporting Summer School Students

Summer school moves fast, and at Indiana Online, we know that success depends on more than great curriculum – it requires a community of support. Whether you are a student trying to get ahead, a parent keeping them on track, or a school partner monitoring progress, we have built a multi-layered support system to ensure every learner crosses the finish line.

Indiana Online supports our students throughout the summer term from registration through final exams.

A Seamless Start: The Onboarding Website

We believe the first step is often the most important. To support account creation, registration, and eliminate first-day jitters, we provide a comprehensive onboarding website designed to walk students through every technical requirement.

This one-stop resource includes:

  • Step-by-Step Directions: Clear instructions on how to log in to Genius (our Student Information System) and Canvas (our Learning Management System).
  • Navigation Guides: Tutorials on how to access course materials, submit assignments, and track grades.
  • Success Tips: Strategies specifically tailored for the accelerated pace of summer learning.

Proactive Support: The Student Services Intervention Protocol

Our Student Services team doesn’t just wait for a student to ask for help; we actively monitor progress to catch hurdles before they become roadblocks. Our robust intervention protocol is built on data and human connection.

  • Pacing & Inactivity Monitoring: We keep a close eye on student activity. If a student falls behind the suggested pacing guide or shows a period of inactivity, our team is alerted.
  • Direct Outreach: When a student hits an intervention trigger, our Student Services team members reach out directly to both the student and their guardian(s).
  • Collaborative Solutions: This outreach isn’t just a reminder; it’s a conversation to identify barriers – whether they are technical, academic, or personal – and create a plan to get back on track.

Accessible Learning for Every Student

Equity is at the heart of what we do. We provide a specialized toolkit of resources to ensure that students with different learning needs, language backgrounds, or accessibility requirements can engage fully with their coursework.

Key tools we provide and support include:

  • Immersive Reader: A powerful tool built into our platform that offers text-to-speech, font adjustments, and reading focus modes.
  • Language & Translation Tools: We provide a list of resources like Google Translate and Ultimate Video Translator to support students whose primary language is not English.
  • Reading Supports: Tools like Snap & Read help simplify complex text and provide additional text-to-speech functionality across various web layouts.

Our mission is to ensure that no student feels like they are learning alone just because they are learning online.
