Indiana Online, a department of the Central Indiana Educational Service Center, is proud to announce the availability of course 3524: Introduction to Public Service for August 2025 enrollment. This offering supports schools in helping students achieve the Enlistment and Service Readiness Seal on their Indiana Diploma.

Meeting the New Indiana Diploma Requirements

The Indiana Department of Education has established Student Readiness Seals as additional distinctions students can earn alongside their base diploma. The Enlistment & Service Honors Seal represents one pathway for students interested in military or public service careers.

Course 3524: Introduction to Public Service

This comprehensive course provides students with a thorough understanding of public service opportunities in both military and non-military fields. Developed in partnership with Virtual Arkansas and North Dakota Center for Distance Education, the curriculum will be reviewed by the Indiana Army National Guard to ensure relevance and accuracy.

The course covers an introduction to career paths in public service, historical context of U.S. military and public service, military customs and courtesies, ethical behavior and decision-making, leadership and analytical reasoning skills development, personal and professional development opportunities, and community impact of public service.

Benefits for Schools and Students

For schools without a Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) program, this course provides a flexible alternative to help students earn the Enlistment Readiness Seal. The online format ensures accessibility for all Indiana students, regardless of their school’s size or resources.

Additional Support Resources

The Indiana Army National Guard stands ready to support student success through career mentorship and counseling, ASVAB tutoring and Career Exploration Program, guest speakers for classrooms, education benefits information, and “Educate the Educators” resources. Indiana Online offers core courses as well as supplemental courses to help schools fulfill Indiana diploma requirements. See our website for a complete list of available courses.

Enrollment Information

Registration for the Introduction to Public Service course is open for Fall 2025 enrollment. The course will be taught by Indiana-certified teachers with specific licensure in Health, Physical Education, Social Studies, or CTE programs, with a strong preference for those who have public service experience.
