Exciting news! Laura Garmire, Instructional Design and Curriculum Manager, and Amanda Domogalik, Instructional Designer, had the privilege of presenting at the Quality Matters Connect Conference in Chicago, on November 5, 2024. They shared invaluable insights on “Lessons Learned in Creating Quality Online Courses”. It was an incredible opportunity to engage with fellow educators and instructional designers committed to elevating the standards of online education.
The session focused on three key goals:
- How to create clear documentation and templates for consistent course design.
- Finding the ongoing training needs for instructional designers and subject matter experts.
- Laying out a practical plan for continuous professional growth for those building online courses.
“Attending a conference that focuses on quality online courses allows Indiana Online to showcase what they are doing, along with collaborating and learning from others from around the nation to further enhance our courses,” stated Laura Garmire, Indiana Online Instructional Design and Curriculum Manager.
The exchange of ideas and best practices was truly inspiring, reaffirming the power of collaboration in shaping high-quality, learner-focused online experiences. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the conversation!
Indiana Online develops courses using Quality Matters certified instructional designers and subject matter experts licensed in the content area. Each course goes through a rigorous three-phase process using the Quality Matters rubric as a guide.
Indiana Online’s course template has achieved Quality Matters certification, demonstrating our commitment to excellence in online education. Indiana Online has also received certification from Quality Matters for several courses by successfully meeting Quality Matters K-12 Content Rubric Standards. Content standards look at academic standard alignment to lessons and assessments; breadth, depth, and rigor; along with accessibility. Indiana Online is seeking certification for high-enrollment courses through Quality Matters.
Many of our staff have gone through Quality Matters, “Using the K-12 QM Rubric” training, and three staff members have advanced training and serve on certification teams for Quality Matters. Laura has also served on the Quality Matters revision committee for the 5th and 6th Edition rubrics.
