Our Story

The Central Indiana Educational Service Center (CIESC) acquired Indiana Online (then called Indiana Online Academy) in the fall of 2005. The progress we have made since then has been tremendous. In our first year, Indiana Online had 389 students enroll in courses, but we have grown steadily each year since then, and we supported and served more than 35,000 course enrollments combined in summer 2023 and school year 2023-24. Our constant growth has allowed us to:

  • Utilize more than 300 teachers
  • Partner with over 300 schools across Indiana
  • Employ staff with a combined education experience of more than 165 years

In 2013, a membership with the Virtual Learning Leadership Alliance (VLLA), strengthened our program with a twenty-state consortium of statewide virtual schools and programs. The VLLA meets monthly to share ideas and resources. This provides us with opportunities to enrich our courses for an optimal quality learning experience for our students.

Over the years Indiana Online has had the opportunity to participate in and partner with numerous programs, conferences, and committees including Ivy Tech, Trine University, Indiana Donor Network, National Standards for Quality Project, and so many more.

During the Fall semester of 2018, Indiana Online began offering courses as part of the Indiana Course Access Portal (iCAP) which is offered through the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE). Indiana Online was one of only five online programs that were chosen to participate in the pilot program designed for school districts who can’t offer certain courses.

As leaders in the education space and one of the largest and well-respected online supplemental programs in the state, members of the Indiana Online team have been invited to present at numerous state and national conferences including AESA, FETC, ICE, HECC, IASP, ISCA, Quality Matters, and NPEC.

Indiana Online develops our courses using certified course designers and subject matter experts. Each course goes through a rigorous three-phase process using the Quality Matters rubric as a guide. Many of our staff have gone through Quality Matters, “Using the K-12 QM Rubric” training, and three staff members have advanced training and serve on certification teams for Quality Matters. Indiana Online’s course template is also certified by Quality Matters.

Indiana Online continues to grow alongside the needs of our students. We believe all students can be successful in an online learning environment with the support of staff, teachers, parents, and mentors. As one of the largest and well-respected online supplemental programs in the state, our program provides an innovative environment so that learners of every type in any location may achieve their personal potential.
